about.
Walk into a CBD gym at 5pm on a weekday and watch an experienced personal trainer (see: budget psychologist) train a client. That’s functional creativity.
It’s understanding a client's needs, movement mechanics, which tools are in use, constructing a way to mimic the required movement pattern with available tools, and doing it in seconds so your client doesn’t realise none of this was actually the plan.
That was my creative life for nearly a decade before pursuing an advertising career.
I’ve since gone back to uni in my 30s, graduated from RMIT Advertising with the Program Leadership & Achievement Award, worked at a startup, started my own startup, joined the Blackbird VC ‘GIANTS’ Program, killed my own startup, did the midlife crisis thing, did AWARD School 2021, lived through a pandemic, then did AWARD again in 2023 (folio) because my first book just didn't feel like me.
I'm a big sports guy, big gaming guy, big stonks guy, and I'm quite literally a big guy.
In the AWARD shot above, I'm the bloke at the front who looks like he's been photoshopped in oversized.
Most importantly, I'm a big advertising guy. I'll talk the ear off anyone who'll listen.
